Just escaped life sentence, continued to steal property

(Baonghean.vn) - Having been sentenced to life in prison and recently had his criminal record cleared, Dung continued to enter a grocery store to steal 2 cartons of milk and a phone with a total value of more than 10 million VND.

On the morning of December 28, Tan Ky District People's Court opened the first instance trial of the criminal case against Nguyen Van Dung (born in 1963, residing in Hamlet 3, Nam Linh, Nam Dan) for "Theft of property".

According to the indictment, at around 8:00 a.m. on October 9, Dung borrowed a motorbike and drove to Lat town (Tan Ky) to find out the price of sand and gravel.

At the Viet Ly grocery store in Block 7, Lat town, Dung stole two 400 gram boxes of Ensure milk and hid them in his jacket. Next, Dung went to the Thuan Phuong grocery store in Block 8. Here, Dung stole a leather wallet, inside of which was a Samsung S7 mobile phone.

After that, Dung drove towards Do Luong town. On the way, afraid of being discovered, Dung threw his leather wallet and phone on the side of the road. Dung took the two boxes of milk home to use.

Knowing that the police were searching for him, on November 2, 2017, Dung turned himself in to the Tan Ky District Police. The total value of the stolen property was estimated at 10 million 457 thousand VND.

At the trial, Dung confessed to his crime, consistent with the evidence collected during the investigation of the case.

It is known that on December 13, 1994, Dung was sentenced to life in prison by the People's Court of Ho Chi Minh City for the crime of "Illegal drug trafficking", then his sentence was reduced 6 times and he completed his sentence on October 23, 2009 and his criminal record was cleared.

At the end of the trial, the panel sentenced Nguyen Van Dung to 12 months in prison and ordered him to pay 10 million 630 thousand VND in compensation to the two victims./.
