'Hiding' from activities when retired

(Baonghean) - Recently, party members in my neighborhood reported the situation of some retirees living in the neighborhood, who are party members but when they retired, they tried to "escape" from party activities, sir! If they were cases that were allowed to take a break from party activities as prescribed, there would be nothing to say, but there is a lot of evidence showing that there is a phenomenon of "escape" from activities.

- Did they say how those party members "escaped"?

- Yes! For example, there was a military officer who, when he worked, was stationed in a remote province. Now that he has retired, he thinks that no one in his place of residence knows that he is a party member, so he "pretends to forget" to submit the procedures to transfer party activities to his place of residence to avoid having to participate in party activities. It is worth mentioning that when he retired, he was only in his 50s and in good health...

Then again, there are party members who, when they retire, complete procedures to transfer their party activities to one place, while others who live in another place use the excuse of being far away to not return. In addition, the "condescension" of the party cell, so that in almost every party cell meeting, they ask someone to take attendance and record their names, but in reality, they are not present to participate in the activities...

- According to you, why do they avoid party activities?

- First of all, it is because the party members who “hide” from party activities are those who are weak in consciousness, perception, and have problems with their party membership. Perhaps, they are those who only participate in party activities when it is beneficial for them personally, so when they have not retired, they participate in party activities for benefits, for opportunities, both political opportunities, power, and economic opportunities.

These are people who join the Party and participate in Party activities with the purpose of focusing on benefits and not on responsibilities. They participate in Party activities only for personal purposes, not for collective purposes, not for the Party's ideals as they promised in the oath they made when they joined the Party.

On the other hand, another reason why some party members “hide” from party activities is because the content, quality, and form of party activities at some grassroots party organizations are not really serious and effective. In fact, there are many local party cells whose activities are monotonous, boring, with little information and lack of liveliness...

Meetings that are perfunctory and formal, and do not demonstrate the role, position, capacity and fighting power of the Party, will not be attractive to Party members. The number of such Party cells may not be large, but it is a reality that needs to be taken seriously.

- That is true. It is even more poignant when recently General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong warned about the situation of "boredness with the Party, dry Youth Union, and apathy towards politics". I think that "hiding" from Party activities is also a manifestation of "boredness with the Party". This issue needs to be taken seriously in order to have solutions and measures to overcome it.

- As mentioned above, in my opinion, we need to continue to study and research to overcome both subjective and objective causes. On the one hand, we need to propagate, mobilize, educate, and even have strict disciplinary measures against party members who "hide" from party activities.

On the other hand, it is necessary to innovate and improve the quality of Party cell activities, enhance the role, capacity and fighting strength of Party organizations, and make the content of Party activities truly practical and useful, which will limit the situation of "hiding" from Party activities.
