Sanchez scores twice, Arsenal wins on the day Wenger sets record

Alexis Sanchez scored twice in just four minutes to help Arsenal beat home team Crystal Palace 3-2. With the three points, the Gunners continued to breathe hot on Liverpool, the team currently holding the fourth position on the rankings.

In the trip to Selhurst Park to face Palace, a team in good form under Roy Hodgson, manager Arsene Wenger applied a formation with a back three for Arsenal. Wenger gave Calum Chambers his first Premier League start of the season while deploying Shkodran Mustafi to contain the power of Christian Benteke.

Wenger's tactical calculations helped Arsenal play a very good first 45 minutes. The Gunners kept a clean sheet in the first half and also scored the opening goal through Mustafi. In the 25th minute, Alexandre Lacazette dribbled down the right wing and curled the ball with his left foot from a fairly narrow angle. Lacazette's shot forced goalkeeper Speroni to push the ball away. The ball found Mustafi's feet and the German defender fired a close-range shot into the Palace net.

In the second half, Palace quickly pushed up their attack in search of an equalizer. In the 59th minute, the home team got what they needed: a goal. Wilfried Zaha received the ball from Jeffrey Schlupp on the left wing, dribbled past Chambers and crossed inside. Zaha's convenient pass allowed Andros Townsend to finish from close range with no one marking him. Not letting Zaha down, Townsend shot the ball dangerously to bring the equalizer 1-1 for Palace.

Townsend's goal gave Palace a boost and they looked set to extend their unbeaten run in the Premier League to nine games. Sanchez, however, had other ideas. The Chilean showed his star quality by scoring twice in the space of four minutes, between the 62nd and 66th minutes, to put Arsenal 3-1 up. It was the first time Sanchez had scored a brace for Arsenal since May 2017.

In the remaining time of the match, Palace tried very hard but only had 1 more goal thanks to Jams Tomkins. Losing with a score of 2-3, Palace still stood in 16th place on the rankings with 1 point more than the red light group.

As for Arsenal, this victory helps them continue to breathe hot into the Top 4. Arsenal is in 6th place with 37 points, 1 point less than the team occupying 4th place, Liverpool. The Gunners' victory is also a meaningful gift for their coach Wenger.

The match against Palace was Wenger's 810th Premier League game in charge of Arsenal, equalling Sir Alex Ferguson's record. Arsenal will travel to West Brom on December 31, and Wenger will become the manager with the most Premier League games in charge.
