The suspect fled after shooting several police officers in the US.

Residents of Douglas County, Colorado, USA, were asked to stay indoors and away from windows as a suspect who shot and killed several police officers was on the run.

"Several officers have been shot. We are not providing a number or their condition at this time and are seeking to apprehend the suspect," the Denver Post quoted Deputy Sheriff Jason Blanchard of the Douglas County Sheriff's Office in Colorado as saying.

Several police officers were shot on the morning of December 31st when they arrived at the Copper Canyon apartment complex in the Highlands near Denver after receiving a call reporting a domestic disturbance around 5:15 a.m. Gunfire erupted as authorities were conducting an investigation.

Three people with non-life-threatening injuries were taken to Skyridge Medical Centre in Thornton. The hospital has not confirmed whether these individuals were the police officers involved in the incident.

A SWAT team was dispatched to the scene at approximately 7:15 a.m. and planned to enter the house. Authorities instructed residents in the area to stay indoors and avoid walls and windows.
