Russia denies information that 7 planes were destroyed by rebels
Two servicemen were killed when rebels fired rocket-propelled grenades at Hmeymim airport (Syria), the Russian Defense Ministry announced.

"On the evening of December 31, 2017, Hmeymim airport was suddenly attacked by a group of militants using rocket-propelled grenades," the statement said.
It is understood that "Syrian security agencies are taking measures to search for and eliminate militants involved in the attack, while strengthening the protection regime near the airbase."
The Russian Defense Ministry also denied information that an attack by extremist Islamists destroyed seven aircraft at the base; at the same time, it affirmed that the Russian air group in Syria is in a state of combat readiness and continues to fully complete assigned tasks.
