The drug collection point of the transnational drug ring is located close to the Vietnam - Laos border. The scouts had to walk 6 km, lie in wait for many months, and some people got malaria.

The PC 47 Drug Crime Investigation Police Department, Dien Bien Provincial Police, has just busted a case of transporting nearly 500 heroin cakes - the largest amount of drugs ever in this area.

The two arrested are husband and wife.Vang A Kia (44 years old) and Mua Thi Do (38 years old) said they were hired to transport drugs from Laos to Dien Bien Phu city and then to a third country for 400 million VND.Advance payment is 150 million VND, the rest will be received after delivery.

Malaria when 'solving cases'

To crack this case, the detectives of PC 47 spent half a year "tasting honey and sleeping on thorns". The drug gathering area is close to the Vietnam - Laos border, surrounded by forests, the only way to get there is on foot. "We have to walk6 km of forest road. Many rainy days, the road was slippery, we walked barefoot, using our 5 toes to grip the ground to avoid falling, there were steep hills, to cross we had to drop ropes or use bamboo to climb down", a scout recalled.

There was a time when the scouts were in the deep forest for nearly a month. In the winter, the temperature dropped, the cold in the forest cut into the skin,Food brought only dry food, instant noodles and canned meat.

"During the ambush, a lieutenant got malaria. We had to cut down a tree to make a stretcher and walk a few kilometers to get him out, then ride a motorbike 15 kilometers to the commune health station for emergency treatment," the scout recounted. After spending 10 days in the hospital, the lieutenant continued to volunteer to go into the forest to work on the unfinished project.

'Decoy' to mislead investigation

On the first day of the new year 2018, the scouts received information that the trafficking group was preparing to transport goods to a location in the forest in Na U commune. Their plan was to transport them to Dien Bien city and then to a third country for consumption.

Instead of delivering the goods immediately, they assigned “decoys” to ride on three motorbikes carrying sacks down to the Dien Bien basin to scout. Knowing the “trick”, the scouts turned a blind eye.

Seeing the favorable situation, at about 6:30 p.m. the same day, the couple Kia and Do rode two motorbikes carrying 6 sacks into an empty land in the middle of the Dien Bien basin field, Dien Bien district.

The task force divided into many groups to close the siege. When they discovered the police, the couple used weapons to fight back fiercely but were subdued.

The task force seized 489 heroin cakes weighing 171 kg contained in tea packaging along with 2 motorbikes and 2 phones. The drugs were valued at approximately 3 million USD, equivalent to 70 billion VND.

According to the leader of PC47 Dien Bien, this is a high-quality drug ring operating across the country. Starting from Laos, this group connected with the Mong ethnic people in Na U commune, Dien Bien district, Dien Bien province to transport drugs to third countries.
