The General Department of Roads has just requested its affiliated units and BOT investors to install signs prohibiting stopping for more than 5 minutes at toll stations and installing signs prohibiting parking near the stations. In addition, the General Department will also propose and coordinate with local authorities to resolutely handle drivers who intentionally cause congestion at toll stations, especially as the 2018 Lunar New Year approaches.

Accordingly, the General Department of Roads has just issued a document requesting BOT Investors; Expressway Development and Investment Corporation (VEC); Vietnam Infrastructure Development and Finance Investment Corporation (VIDIFI); Road Management Departments I, II, III, IV and the Expressway Management Department to organize traffic at toll stations for road use services.

Specifically,To avoid traffic congestion in the area of toll stations on national highways and ensure smooth traffic conditions for people, especially before, during and after the Lunar New Year 2018, the General Department of Roads assigned the above units to review the current status of signs at toll stations to organize traffic in the direction of installing "No parking" signs about 100 - 200m in front of the toll station (depending on specific conditions to determine the appropriate distance).

In addition, the General Department requires the installation of a sign “No parking for more than 5 minutes” (the sign is written in words, red background, white writing) about 50m from the toll booth. The sign is installed on the median strip and on the pole that extends to the right of the direction of traffic. The end of the prohibition sign is installed about 100-200m behind the toll booth.

Director General of Roads Nguyen Van Huyen said that while solutions to handle BOT issues are being studied (according to the opinion of Minister of Transport Nguyen Van The, it will take about 2 more months, after Tet - PV), urgent solutions are needed to maintain smooth traffic.

According to Mr. Nguyen Van Huyen, in addition to the above-mentioned signboard solution, the Ministry of Transport and the General Department have been and will be working with localities to increase propaganda and strictly handle drivers who intentionally cause traffic jams at toll stations. "In case the jam is still there for some reason, the stations are forced to release the station to avoid traffic jams," Mr. Huyen said.
