(Baonghean.vn)- Yonhap news agency reported on January 18 that South Korea and the United States have agreed to continue deploying US strategic war vehicles to the Korean Peninsula to deal with Pyongyang's nuclear and missile threats.
Yonhap quoted the South Korean Ministry of Defense as saying that South Korea and the United States reached an agreement on redeploying strategic weapons to the Korean Peninsula at the Extended Deterrence Strategic Consultative Group (EDSCG) meeting held on January 17 in Washington, DC, with the participation of senior officials from the two countries' foreign and defense ministries.

The ministry added that at this conference, the two sides reaffirmed their commitment to the defense treaty with South Korea, which is being expanded and using all military capabilities, and to continue to redeploy US strategic war assets to South Korea and neighboring areas to counter Pyongyang's nuclear and missile threats.
Recently, the US has also increased the deployment of many strategic war vehicles to the Asia-Pacific region, such as deploying 6 B52 long-range bombers and 3 B-2 heavy bombers to the Guam military base, and sending the aircraft carrier Carl Vinson (CVN 70) to the Western Pacific.

EDSCG is a mechanism launched by the US and South Korea last year with the aim of preventing North Korea's nuclear and missile threats. This mechanism was established by the two countries and takes place annually, after South Korean President Moon Jae-in and his US counterpart Donald Trump agreed at a summit in June 2017./.
