Russian admirals oppose liquidation of 2 submarines
It is too early to liquidate the world's most powerful heavy strategic missile submarines "Akula": they can be upgraded with new ballistic or cruise missiles. Russian admirals said this in an interview with Sputnik.
Earlier, citing sources in the shipbuilding industry, Sputnik reported that after 2020, "Rosatom" will liquidate two nuclear submarines of project 941 (codename "Akula") "Arkhangelsk" and "Severstal".

"I can only express my personal regret. Those submarines were the most powerful ships in the world, built using the highest technology. "Akula" carried 20 missiles with ten warheads. I went to sea with this ship as the first deputy commander of the Northern Fleet. They were easy to control. I have never experienced such excitement," said the former commander of the Black Sea Fleet, Admiral Vladimir Komoedov.
According to him, those nuclear submarines can be upgraded with "Bulava" intercontinental ballistic missiles or modern cruise missiles, like the modernized US "Ohio" submarine.
Former Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy, Admiral Igor Kasatonov also opposed the liquidation of the ships "Arkhangelsk" and "Severstal".
Project 941 nuclear submarines are the world's largest nuclear-powered submarines, with a full displacement of 49,800 tons, length — 172 meters, width — 23.3 meters. A total of 6 such cruisers were built.
