As the newspaper notes, the S-400 is superior to similar Western models in many parameters. First, the Russian weapon can launch several guided missiles with different ranges at the same time. Specifically, National Interest names four such missiles, with ranges of 40, 120, 250 and 400 km respectively. According to this newspaper, the US "Patriot" is only capable of launching missiles with a range of 96 km.
Second, the National Interest notes another outstanding feature of one of the anti-aircraft missiles (9M96E2 with a range of 120 km), which the S-400 can launch. The article writes that this type of missile not only flies at a speed of 5 km/s but is also capable of destroying targets flying at an altitude of 5 meters above the ground.
The newspaper quoted the assessment of leading military expert Carlo Kopp, saying that the S-400 could be equipped with special radar designed to destroy modern low-altitude aircraft such as the F-22 and F-35.
At the same time, National Interest emphasized that the S-400 invention gives Russia an advantage over the United States and NATO countries when possessing a small fleet of fighter jets.
Experts also note that Russian air defense missiles pose a real threat to the airborne radio surveillance and detection systems of the United States and some other NATO countries. Specifically, the newspaper mentioned the American Boeing E-3 Sentry aircraft with long-range radar, which is vulnerable to the Russian S-400.In his opinion, military analyst, retired colonel Victor Baranets noted that the Russian S-400 is a unique weapon because its tactical and technical performance has no analogues in the world. And this has been known for a long time.
"The West has not once had to grit its teeth and admit that the S-400 has a unique feature: the system can simultaneously track more than 60 targets. Even if several missiles, drones, enemy aircraft attack Russia at the same time, the "eyes" of the 400 will see everything, and the automatic device will determine the most suitable missile for these targets. If we characterize the S-400 as a whole, this system combines all the best features of the Russian defense industry today: from the engine, to the guidance system, to the unique radar. And I am forced to make the West suffer even more, because there will be the S-500 missile, which has long been tested and is making positive progress. If the S-500 appears, we can say with confidence that no country in the world has such a reliable air defense system.
