Compared to its competitors in the Vietnamese market, Nissan X-Trail receives attention for its 5+2 design and modern technology...

Nissan X-Trail – a newcomer to the Vietnamese market when there are extremely prominent names such as: Honda CR-V, Mazda CX-5 or Hyundai Tucson. However, that does not mean that this car will be overshadowed by its competitors that have appeared before. And Nissan has proven by creating an X-Trail that is not only better, more comfortable but also creates a segment that most competitors are still leaving open.

Simple yet modern design

Entering the market with a new generation model, many consumers were surprised by the "transformation" of the Nissan X-Trail. The images of the square, somewhat dry X-Trail mobile box have now given way to a softer but stronger, more modern and much more attractive appearance.

The design details bring a sense of flexibility without losing the strength. With the 2.5 SV 4WD Premium L version introduced in this article, the exterior of the X-Trail is also supplemented with front/rear bumpers and side skirts, although they are just small details, they somehow add elegance and personality to the car.

Luxury and modernity are also clearly shown when looking directly from the front of the car with Nissan's signature radiator grille shaped according to the Vmotion design language, LED headlights with automatic beam angle adjustment, stylized boomerang-shaped LED daytime strips,...

The front of the car stands out with an LED headlight system that automatically balances the beam angle (on the 2.5 SV 4WD and 2.0 SL 2WD versions).

Compared to the prominence of the front of the car, the body and rear of the X-Trail have a rather gentle design and do not have many embossed lines to create outstanding highlights. Instead, Nissan attracts users' attention by using a pair of large 18-inch rims with a sophisticated design and a high roof rack to add to the solidity of the X-Trail.

Quality built interior

Sitting in the cockpit of the Nissan X-Trail, those who love modern spaces with many emotional levels will surely feel a bit disappointed because the cabin design of this car mainly focuses on convenience and comfort. You can easily find features that serve the common needs of Vietnamese customers such as push-button start, anti-glare mirror, 6.5-inch central touch screen running Android operating system, USB/AUX/Bluetooth connection port, panoramic sunroof...

Interior space on the X-Trail.

The center console is compactly designed with a 5-inch touch screen to support control. In particular, with the highest version (2.5L SV 4WD Xtronic-CVT), Nissan X-Trail is equipped with 4 cameras that help you see a 360-degree view around the car in real time, allowing you to control everything around your car.

The dual-zone automatic air conditioning system and rear seat vents are also standard equipment on all versions of the X-Trail and are really necessary when the number of passengers has been increased from 5 to 7. In the writer's opinion, the quality of the construction and materials used for the interior are very good, durable and difficult to break.

The highlight that the Nissan X-Trail has over its competitors is the seats, which feel quite comfortable, soft and spacious. The armrests on both sides of the doors, the front center armrest, the steering wheel, the gear lever and the seats are all accented with leather details.

The second row of seats is considered quite smart when divided in a ratio of 40/20/40. On the center armrest and the outside armrests, there are convenient cup holders for the occupants. The seat back can be reclined if the third row is not occupied.

The third row of seats is considered an advantage of the X-Trail in the segment.

Spacious luggage compartment when both rear seats are folded.

The headroom and legroom of this row of seats are quite spacious thanks to the flexible ability to slide the seats forward/backward. A common point of the 5+2 SUV line is that the space for the 3rd row of seats is always quite cramped, so it is difficult to provide comfort when traveling long distances.

In return for the cramped third row, the Nissan X-Trail has a spacious 550L luggage compartment when only using the two front rows. These numbers completely beat the 403L space of the CX-5 and the Hyundai Tucson with 488L. And even with the third row of seats, the car's cargo space is still up to 135L. Therefore, these have become significant advantages that help the Nissan X-Trail get closer to customers when they consider choosing a CUV for the modern family.

Fully equipped with safety features

It must be said that, as a latecomer, Nissan X-Trail knows how to differentiate itself to attract customers with dozens of modern technologies, even new technologies that appear for the first time in the world and on Nissan cars. It can be mentioned that the ACC solution package includes the ARC active steering control system, AEB active engine braking control and ATC active cornering control.

Driving assistance technologies help X-Trail maintain stability when steering sharply at high speeds...

... or have to climb steep hills.

Along with that, there is also the HSA hill start assist system, HDC hill descent control, ABLS active braking system, TCS traction control, 360-degree camera... All of the above technologies are aimed at helping the X-Trail respond more quickly and accurately in all driving situations.

Smooth ride but a bit noisy

It must be said that the writer is quite impressed with the steering system of the Nissan X-Trail, it is precise and light when moving in the city. The multi-link suspension system makes the car extremely smooth when you run on bad road terrain. However, with the limited power of only 169 horsepower from the 2.5L engine when combined with the CVT gearbox, when pressing the accelerator pedal to accelerate, the engine is noisy, the tire noise echoes into the cabin a bit loud.

In Vietnam, X-Trail has 3 versions for customers to choose from - 2.5L SV 4WD Xtronic-CVT with maximum capacity of 169 horsepower and maximum torque of 233 Nm; 2.0L SL 2WD Xtronic-CVT and 2.0L 2WD Xtronic-CVT produce 142 horsepower and maximum torque of 200 Nm.

The feeling of lack of acceleration when accelerating in overtaking situations is also easy to recognize and the thing to do to improve is to switch to manual mode to actively shift to lower gears. This is one of the limitations that the CVT gearbox creates, but in return it allows the car to accelerate more stably and smoothly.

When operating in 4x4-i mode, the Nissan X-Trail operates mainly with 100% of the power transmitted to the front wheels. Even when accelerating suddenly, going up or downhill, the power distribution ratio to the rear wheels rarely exceeds 10%. Perhaps the road is really bad and difficult to travel, then the power distribution ratio for the rear wheels will be more.

Nissan X-Trail is currently priced in Vietnam from 852 - 986 million VND.

With continuous curves, X-Trail shows that it can handle and control the body effectively, operate flexibly in all situations, generally it gives the driver a feeling of enjoyment and comfort throughout the journey.

Evaluate

With a distinct 5+2 design, comfortable cabin and a series of safety support technologies, Nissan X-Trail has been gradually gaining the trust of customers as well as creating its own position in the small Crossover segment.

Currently, Nissan X-Trail is being sold in Vietnam from 852 - 986 million VND. This is considered a very competitive price compared to competitors, even when competitors have just had a new generation replacement such as Mazda CX-5 or Honda CR-V./.
