Spare parts should be replaced promptly to avoid 'disaster' for cars

Surely anyone who owns a car feels a little "nervous" when having to take their car to the garage for repair because they don't know how many zeros will be on the bill that is about to appear.

Engine air filter, cabin air filter and fuel filter

With prices ranging from just a few hundred thousand (normal type) to around 2 million VND (high-end type), these are important parts that help the vehicle operate smoothly but have low repair and replacement costs.

The engine air filter is often of interest to car owners because this part is attached to the engine, with the task of filtering clean air pumped into the cylinder, helping the car start more smoothly. A dirty air filter will make the car engine weak or worse, not start.

The fuel filter (green arrow) is usually located somewhere along the fuel line.

The fuel filter protects the injection pump system and engine from harmful agents such as dirt, water and residues in the fuel. Together with the air filter, the fuel filter has the function of ensuring maximum purity for the mixture of gasoline (or oil) and air, pumped into the cylinder, helping the engine always achieve maximum performance. You should also note that on a vehicle there can be many different fuel filters, responsible for filtering different components.

The cabin air filter can be considered a "mask" for passengers in the car.

Meanwhile, the cabin air filter, sometimes also known as the air conditioning filter, is responsible for bringing clean air from the outside into the passenger compartment, which has a direct impact on the health of those sitting in the car, but is rarely paid attention to. A dirty cabin air filter can cause the car to have an unpleasant smell or the air conditioner to be turned on at full blast but not cool.

Brake fluid and transmission fluid

Brake fluid used for too long will become waterlogged due to absorbing moisture from the air (especially if the vehicle is frequently wading through water). The moisture will cause the boiling point to drop, causing the brake fluid to foam, reducing the ability to transmit braking force and making the braking system less effective, especially in situations where the vehicle must brake continuously for a long time, such as when going downhill.

Transmission oil also plays an important role, especially for automatic transmission vehicles. With AT transmission, oil not only performs basic roles such as lubrication, cleaning and cooling, but is also an indispensable component of the valve system and hydraulic pistons that control the operation of the transmission. Lack of transmission oil makes the vehicle weak, accelerates poorly, revs high but still sluggish and worst of all, damages the transmission.

Typically, brake fluid is recommended to be changed every 40,000 km and transmission fluid every 80,000 km. However, this number may vary depending on the specific type of fluid.

Engine spark plug

"First is the spark plug failure, second is what's inside it", this legendary saying that everyone knows shows the importance of spark plugs for both cars and motorbikes. Spark plugs are responsible for generating sparks between two electrodes (center electrode and grounded side electrode), to ignite the air-fuel mixture from being fed into the combustion chamber.

Even a single faulty spark plug can cause the engine to misfire, a broken piston ring seal or oil contamination. Therefore, spark plugs need to be checked and cleaned regularly.

Belt

The serpentine belt is responsible for pulling many different parts in the engine such as the air conditioner, coolant pump, radiator fan or power steering system. The belt is one of the cheapest components in the car but plays a very important role. On most popular cars today, there is only one main belt responsible for transmission. Meanwhile, on high-end cars (with V6 or V8 engines), the engine may have two symmetrical belts. Some cheap cars may have two independent belts (one for transmission and one for air conditioner, generator...).

In any case, if the helical belt breaks, many parts of the engine will go on strike. Worse, if the main belt breaks, the engine will be under the hood, forcing the owner to disassemble it to reset the shafts and pistons. Of course, the cost in this case will not be small.

Spiral belts often wear out during use, but can also rot due to chemicals, air humidity... Therefore, we should regularly pay attention to this part to avoid encountering more unfortunate risks.

Brake fluid pipe

Even a small leak in the brake hose can cause all the brake fluid in the car to leak onto the road and cause the car to lose its brakes completely. The consequences are obvious.

In general, the spare parts mentioned in the article only cost a few hundred thousand dong, but the importance of the brake fluid pipe is much greater. Don't forget to check this part every time you feel a problem with the brake pedal or when taking the car for maintenance.
