Expanded export markets

In 2017, the export turnover in Nghe An reached 992.35 million USD, exceeding the plan by 16%. Of which, goods reached 696 million USD with 156 enterprises participating in the export. The province's key product groups such as textiles, fruits and fruit juices, various types of stone products, etc. had a sharp increase in export turnover compared to 2017.

The export market expanded from 74 countries in 2016 to 112 countries in 2017. The export turnover of FDI enterprises continued to grow, reaching 192.2 million USD, accounting for 27.6% of total export turnover of goods.

Many export products have met the quality standards of countries such as Japan, the US, Germany, etc., which are markets that require very high standards for products before being imported. The purchase and consumption of agricultural, forestry and seafood products for farmers in the province has achieved quite good results. There has been no backlog of products, including peanuts, green tea, forestry products, seafood, cassava, etc.

In 2017, 104 enterprises participated in import activities, reaching a turnover of 615.26 million USD, an increase of 23.03% compared to 2017, mainly fresh fruits, machinery and equipment, raw materials, etc. serving production and processing for export.

Inadequate mineral resource tax

However, the export scale is still small compared to the potential and development requirements; the average export turnover per capita is still low compared to the national average.

At the conference, delegates focused on discussing a number of issues to resolve difficulties in import and export activities. The leader of An Thinh Mineral Exploitation Joint Stock Company reflected that in mineral export activities, there is a phenomenon of revealing business information, leading to unfair competition. Businesses compete to sell, even sell below cost, and are making things difficult for each other.

The issue of imposing too high resource tax is causing many mineral enterprises to face difficulties, even losses - also reflected by delegates. Ms. Dinh Thi Thu Hien - Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of Tin Hoang Company said that the increase in resource tax has led to the fee for granting mineral rights increasing 3 times. Previously, our enterprise only had to pay 812 million, but according to the new calculation, it has increased to 2.5 billion VND. The shocking increase in tax and fees is beyond the endurance of enterprises.

In addition, some delegates said that there should be solutions to stabilize power sources for production; the issuance of CO import and export licenses should be more convenient; the number of export items of enterprises still depends on goods from other provinces and foreign markets...

The Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee requested relevant departments and branches to support enterprises to promote production and processing of goods, creating sources of export goods; Building infrastructure to serve import and export: Seaports, border gates, transportation, electricity, water, etc.

The Customs and Tax Departments need to continue administrative reforms and support import-export businesses.
