Watermelon shaped gold bars 3.5 million/pair
Many people, including tycoons, went to the watermelon fields to "hunt" for pairs of gold bar watermelons to display during Tet but there were still no goods.
Mr. Tran Thanh Liem (residing in Binh Thuy district, Can Tho city) - considered the "king" of shaped watermelons in the West, said that he had just cut gold bar watermelons printed with the words "Tai - Loc" and delivered them to customers. Unlike previous years, Mr. Liem said that this year, due to the erratic weather and heavy rain, many of the shaped watermelons were damaged.
"This year, I planted and molded 350 pairs of gold bar watermelons. However, due to heavy rain, I was only able to produce 40 pairs to sell on the market. Therefore, there were not enough watermelons to deliver to customers, so I had to call them to apologize," said Mr. Liem.

The king of shaped watermelons in the West added that the price of grade 1 watermelons (2 kg) is from 3-3.5 million VND/pair; grade 2 watermelons (1.7 kg) are priced at 2.5 million VND/pair; grade 3 watermelons (1.5 kg) are priced at 2 million VND/pair.
Mr. Liem said that many people, including tycoons, went to the fields to buy a pair of gold bar watermelons to display during Tet or give to relatives, but still could not find any.
“Because of the small quantity, I only deliver no more than 4 pairs to each customer. Creating the gold bar melon shape is very difficult, because the fruit is inside the mold, so it is impossible to know in advance how successful it will be. To have a beautiful and “mold-friendly” melon depends on many factors, of which the weather is the most important factor,” said Mr. Liem.
