In his first speech as South Africa's new president, Cyril Ramaphosa,President Donald Trump today vowed to fight corruption, in a veiled reference to allegations leveled against his predecessor Jacob Zuma.

"Issues of corruption, how to deal with state-owned enterprises and how to deal with corruption are in our sights,"AFP"Those issues will be resolved and tomorrow we will also have the opportunity to outline some of the steps that are going to be taken," he told parliament.

Mr. Ramaphos has been South Africa's deputy president since 2014 and has become a prominent politician in this African country after replacing Mr. Zuma as leader of the ruling African National Congress (ANC) party in December 2017.

Mr. Zuma has led the ANC since 2007 and has been President of South Africa since 2009. His term will officially end in mid-2019, but pressure on him to resign has increased in recent weeks, related to many corruption allegations, damaging the image and reputation of the ANC.

Mr Zuma resigned hours after police raided the luxury home of the Indian-born billionaire Gupta family. The raid involved a state-owned dairy farm that prosecutors say was set up to commit fraud. Authorities seized $19 million in funds allocated to the project and froze Atul Gupta’s bank accounts.
