Upon receiving news of the murder, even though it was near Tet, and all the roads in the countryside and streets were filled with spring colors, the criminal police officers still rushed straight to the crime scene to investigate. After 11 days of “skipping Tet”, the journey to capture the murderer, who was a high school student, was successful.

At the end of the year, we had the opportunity to meet with Lieutenant Colonel Do Hoai Nam - Head of Criminal Police Department PC45 CSDT - PCTP on Social Order and Safety of Ha Nam province. For Lieutenant Colonel Do Hoai Nam and his teammates, the "crime-solving" days at the end of the year always leave unforgettable memories in their hearts.

Single woman murdered on 25th of Tet

In the memory of Lieutenant Colonel Do Hoai Nam, the special case on the 25th of the Lunar New Year of Binh Than 2016, to capture the murderer of Mrs. Nguyen Thi Thu (born in 1956), a single woman selling groceries, in An Do commune, Binh Luc district, Ha Nam province, left a great impression, as it happened on the day before Tet, when many families were reunited. The case almost destroyed the peace and joy of welcoming the new year in this low-lying countryside.

On the 25th day of Tet, upon receiving news of a serious murder case that occurred in An Do commune, Binh Luc district, Ha Nam province, even though it was close to Tet, the criminal police officers of PC45 Department still hurriedly put on a warm coat and rushed straight to the crime scene to investigate the case.

Lieutenant Colonel Do Hoai Nam, Head of Criminal Police Department PC45, Investigation Police Department - PCTP on Social Order and Safety of Ha Nam province, recalls the case on the 25th of Tet and the 11-day journey of "abandoning Tet" to capture the murderer.

The murdered victim was Mrs. Nguyen Thi Thu (born in 1956), a single woman who sold groceries. The case happened during the time before the traditional New Year, the peaceful lowland countryside, welcoming the new spring, suddenly became more gloomy and suffocating than ever. Many people did not dare to leave their homes when the afternoon just fell, all households closed their doors very early for fear...

The investigation of the crime scene was completed quickly by the soldiers, the plans to isolate the subject and check as well as mobilize the masses were all done meticulously and carefully to avoid "pulling the trigger and causing the suspect to escape". According to the initial judgment of the investigation team, the perpetrator could be a local resident or a local who worked far away and came back for Tet so he knew the sales pattern of the victim, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu.

As Tet approaches, the crime-solving team is constantly working hard to restore peace to the people, while also wanting to quickly return home to reunite with their families. The professional forces of Ha Nam Provincial Police are racing against time, collecting documents and checking suspects during the day, and at night, detectives go to each house to mobilize the public to report crimes.

After 4 days, the investigation was still being carried out urgently, the whole team felt unhappy because everything was quite unclear. At this time, many people who worked far away returned home to celebrate Tet, so the number of people gathered was increasing, making it difficult to check. On the night of the 29th of Tet, which was also the time when New Year's Eve was approaching, the Criminal Police officers were still working hard, while everyone gathered around the New Year's Eve dinner, and the men had to take advantage of the opportunity to eat some banh chung and gio that the wife of one of the team members sent to her husband in the afternoon to regain strength for work.

11 days of "abandoning Tet" to hunt for the murderer

After 5 days of checking, verifying and tracking the hot traces of the subject, the task force had set up 50 suspects. Lieutenant Colonel Do Hoai Nam recalled: The time of the case happened was close to Tet but 100% of the officers and soldiers of the Criminal Police Department were mobilized to participate. As for the Major Crimes Team, Tet was only when the case was successfully solved, during those days, the brothers ate and rested right at the headquarters of the People's Committee of An Do commune."

During the screening process, all suspicions focused on Pham Minh Vuong (born in 1998), residing in Thuong village, An Do commune, currently a 12th grade student at a local high school. Vuong is the youngest child in a family of 4 siblings, with a rather difficult situation.

After a night of "drenching in the rain" in the cold of early spring, Lieutenant Colonel Do Quang Minh, Captain of the Major Crimes Team, suffered a bout of malaria.

The investigation team determined that due to lack of money to spend and having just had his phone confiscated by his teacher, Vuong was upset and came up with the idea of robbing to have money to buy a phone and some personal items for his family members.

On the afternoon of the 4th day of Tet (February 11), as the investigation team had predicted, Vuong left the house. All of Vuong's movements were under the control of the task force. After more than an hour of going through many streets of Hanoi, Vuong turned into a house in Hai Ba Trung district (Hanoi). All night long on the 4th day of Tet, the task force of the Ha Nam Criminal Police Department secretly monitored the outside of the house...

After a night of "drenching in the rain" in the cold of early spring, Lieutenant Colonel Do Quang Minh, Captain of the Major Crimes Team, suffered from malaria but still tried with the reconnaissance force and Ha Nam provincial police to block off all alleys and determined that the suspect Vuong was still hiding in his sister's house.

Under the direction of the Director of the Ha Nam Provincial Police, on the 5th day of Tet, detectives were present in Hanoi to organize a siege to capture the subject. However, because it was dark and the streets were crowded, and it was not yet known whether the subject was hiding in his sister's house or not, the detectives had to use beer crates to pretend to be people visiting to wish a happy new year, avoiding the curious eyes of the surrounding people.

Pham Minh Vuong was arrested 11 days after committing the crime.

On the morning of the 6th day of Tet, the detective force raided the sister's house to arrest Vuong. At first, Vuong refused to admit his guilt. After being taken to the police station, Vuong bowed his head and admitted his guilt for the murder.

Because he often went to Mrs. Thu's house to buy things, Vuong knew that Mrs. Thu lived alone so he pretended to go in to buy things. While Mrs. Thu was struggling to find bread, Vuong took the lives of the victims and then searched for their belongings...

After 11 days of “forgoing Tet” and working hard, the Criminal Police Department of Ha Nam Province has brought peace back to the people. For them, a successful case means a truly peaceful Tet.
