UPI news agency reported on February 18 that pressure on FBI Director Christopher Wray to resign is increasing after the agency admittedfailed to investigate a claim that Nikolas Cruz, the 19-year-old accused of killing 17 people at a Florida high school on February 15, had a gun and wanted to kill.
According to sources, this revelation caused a wave of public outrage in Parkland, a suburb of Miami, where the attack took place, and prompted Florida Governor Rick Scott to call on FBI Director Christopher Wray to resign.
“The FBI’s failure to respond appropriately to this killer is unacceptable,” Scott said. “We always say, ‘See something, report it,’ and one brave man did just that, but the FBI took no action.”
Scott's comments came after the FBI said that someone close to suspect Nikolas Cruz called the FBI on January 5, weeks before the attack, to report concerns about him.
“The caller provided information about Cruz having a gun, wanting to kill others, his erratic behavior and disturbing social media posts, along with the possibility that he would engage in a school shooting,” the FBI statement said.
This information should have been forwarded to the FBI office in Miami for further investigation, but this did not happen./.
