Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc attended the festival celebrating the 229th anniversary of the Ngoc Hoi - Dong Da victory.

On the morning of February 20, the 5th day of the Lunar New Year, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc attended the festival celebrating the 229th anniversary of the Ngoc Hoi - Dong Da victory, a sacred traditional festival to commemorate the great contributions of Emperor Quang Trung - Nguyen Hue.

Also attending were Politburo member, Standing member of the Secretariat, Chairman of the Central Inspection Commission Tran Quoc Vuong; Politburo member, Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Hoang Trung Hai, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Uong Chu Luu and representatives of leaders of ministries, departments, branches, some localities and Hanoi City.

In his speech commemorating the Ngoc Hoi-Dong Da victory, Chairman of Dong Da District People's Committee Vo Nguyen Phong recalled that 229 years ago, in the spring of the year Ky Dau 1789, the Tay Son army under the talented and creative command of Emperor Quang Trung - Nguyen Hue launched a lightning-fast attack, defeated more than 200,000 Manchu troops, liberated Thang Long citadel, and regained independence and freedom for the nation.

The victory of the resistance war against the Qing army, typified by the Ngoc Hoi - Dong Da Victory, is the convergence and profound crystallization of the thousand-year-old tradition of patriotism, love of independence and freedom of our people; is the affirmation of the spirit of solidarity, courage, and indomitable will; is an immortal heroic epic in the great history of our nation's struggle to build and defend the country.

"Today, the Party Committee, government and people of Dong Da district are very honored and proud to represent the people of the capital and the people of the whole country to solemnly organize the 229th anniversary of the Ngoc Hoi - Dong Da victory to honor and commemorate the great contributions of the hero Quang Trung - Nguyen Hue, the generals, soldiers of the Tay Son insurgent army and the children of Vietnam who fought bravely and sacrificed to fight against foreign invaders, liberate the country, and maintain national independence," the Chairman of the People's Committee of Dong Da district expressed.

Mr. Vo Nguyen Phong added that as one of the four central districts of the capital, with a population of over 420,000 people and a budget revenue of over 7,000 billion VND, Dong Da district strives to successfully complete socio-economic targets, ensure security and defense to contribute to building the heroic capital to be increasingly rich, beautiful, civilized and modern.

The Dong Da Mound Festival lasts until the 5th day of Tet with special cultural and artistic programs./.
