Iran finds wreckage of plane carrying 65 people

Iranian rescue teams found the site of a passenger plane crash on Mount Dena after a day of searching in bad weather conditions.

Iranian search and rescue forces today reached the scene of the plane crash carrying 65 people a day earlier, the channel said.Press TVreport

An Aseman Airlines ATR-72 crashed into the Dena Mountains in southern Iran yesterday in foggy weather. Iranian authorities believe all crew and passengers on board were killed.

Rescue teams reached the crash site at dawn, as the weather on Mount Dena improved, though still windy. Iranian television footage showed a helicopter joining the search, while ambulances were preparing to head to the scene.

The crash site is believed to be at an altitude of 3,500 meters. Other Iranian news agencies said five helicopters and five drones were involved in the search, which was hampered by bad weather.

The ATR-72 crashed as it was about to land in the city of Yasuj. The cause of the crash is still unknown, although the weather was very bad at the time. Strong winds, heavy snow and fog prevented search and rescue teams from reaching the site immediately after the crash.

The crashed plane was returned to service a few months ago, after seven years on the ground.Iran's president has ordered an investigation into the crash.
