In the new year of the Dog, unique dog breeds are one of the topics that many people are interested in.

Among the strange breeds of dogs, there is one that is famous for its ability to sing like a singer - which is why they are called New Guinea singing dogs (abbreviated in English as NGSD).

NGSDs can vary the pitch of their howls, combining them with yelps or howls and this combination of sounds makes them sound like they're singing, according to Pet Guide.

The New Guinea Singing Dog is one of the world's rarest wild dogs. To date, only two photographs of the NGSD have been taken in the wild: one in 1989 by Australian zoologist Tim Flannery, and one in 2012 by tour guide Tom Hewett.

The New Guinea Singing Dog has been a wild dog native to the island of New Guinea for centuries. The first dog left the island for study in 1897. In 1956, another pair of New Guinea Singing Dogs were captured by scientists and transferred to Taronga Zoo in Australia for study.

In addition, some NGSD are also kept by local people as hunting dogs and domestic dogs. Therefore, today, this dog breed has both individuals existing in the wild and individuals living with humans and being bred by humans.

Characteristic

The NGSD stands 30-46cm tall and weighs 8-14kg when fully grown. Compared to other dog breeds, the New Guinea Singing Dog is quite long-lived, with an average lifespan of 15 to 20 years.

Despite their medium size, these dogs are very active. In the wild, they eat herbivores, rodents, birds, and fruit. In captivity, New Guinea Singing Dogs tend to eat a lot of lean meat.

Characteristic

In most cases, NGSD are very friendly towards humans although they can be a bit shy at first.

These dogs are very intelligent and can be difficult to tame and train. They are good at escaping from captivity and can climb and jump out of cages. Once tamed, these dogs tend to bond strongly with their owners and can be very affectionate.

However, the NGSD has a high prey drive and can be somewhat aloof, even aggressive around strangers and other dogs.

This breed is very intelligent and taming and training them can be very difficult.
