Earn 9 billion VND per year from growing coriander
(Baonghean.vn) - People in Dien Thai commune, Dien Chau district, Nghe An province have been intensively cultivating coriander (spiny coriander) for many years. Currently, the locality has 15 hectares specializing in intensive coriander cultivation, earning people about 9 billion VND each year.
Mrs. Phan Thi Lam's family in Hamlet 3, Dien Thai Commune, Dien Chau District has 1.5 sao of land specializing in growing coriander for many years. Mrs. Lam said: Coriander is easy to grow, prefers muddy soil, has water all year round, can be harvested many times after planting, so the investment is small. Moreover, the care and harvesting process does not require much effort, mainly done on the go.

With this 1.5 sao, Mrs. Lam and her husband harvested from 7am to 10am and got about 100 bunches of vegetables. Currently, they sell to traders at 2,500 VND/bunch (7,500 VND/kg), so in the morning, Mrs. Lam and her husband earned 250,000 VND.
There was a time when the selling price increased to 3,500 VND/bunch. Coriander is harvested in a rolling manner, so there is income every day. In total, Mrs. Lam's family earns about 50 million VND from coriander per year.
Ms. Dinh Thi Trang - officer in charge of agriculture in Dien Thai commune said: The whole commune currently has 15 hectares of land specializing in growing coriander, of which 4 hectares are grown according to VietGAP process.

People in the commune have many years of experience in intensively cultivating coriander, so the yield is high. 1 hectare of coriander can harvest about 60 tons/year, the lowest selling price is 5,000 VND/kg, the highest is 15,000 VND/kg, on average 10,000 VND/kg, people in Dien Thai commune have an income of about 9 billion VND/year from coriander.
According to Ms. Trang, the cost of growing coriander is 40 million VND for 1 hectare of investment to buy shade nets and about 20 million VND for fertilizer, seeds, soil preparation... but can be harvested all year round.

Dien Thai's coriander market is from all over the country. Currently, there are 4 traders in the commune who specialize in purchasing coriander for the people. The purchased vegetables are transported by car to the markets of Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Hue, Hanoi, Hai Phong... for consumption.
According to the people, the price of coriander has increased to 7,500 VND/kg. It is expected to continue to increase in the coming months, especially in the summer, when coriander is consumed strongly, so the price is often the highest of the year.
