A firefighter was swept away and died while saving a sugarcane truck.
While participating in the rescue of a sugarcane truck stuck in the middle of the water, a fire police officer was unfortunately swept away and died.
The accident occurred at around 2:00 p.m. on March 3, in An Khe town, Gia Lai province. The deceased soldier was identified as Sergeant Bui Minh Quy (24 years old, from Ha Nam, working at the An Khe town Fire Prevention and Fighting Team).
Initial information said that at around 2:00 p.m. on March 3, a sugarcane truck with license plate 78K-4985 was driven by Truong Quang Vinh (41 years old, residing in Nghia An commune, An Khe town, Gia Lai province).

When the car was moving through the spillway area in Ngo May ward, An Khe town, the engine suddenly stopped. At that moment, the An Khe – Ka Nat hydroelectric plant released water, causing the car to get stuck, and the driver had to climb into the truck bed to call for help.
Upon receiving the news, the An Khe Town Fire Prevention and Rescue Team arrived at the scene to rescue the driver and the car. However, when the authorities arrived, the water had reached the car's cabin and there was a risk of it being swept away.
Realizing the dire situation, the authorities deployed a team and Sergeant Bui Minh Quy used a lifeline to swim to the location of the stuck vehicle to rescue the driver. However, due to the strong current, Comrade Quy was swept away into the overflow and became trapped there.
Immediately after that, the authorities called the An Khe – Ka Nat Hydropower Plant Management Board to request that they temporarily stop releasing water. At about 3:40 p.m. the same day, when the water receded, the authorities approached the car and rescued Mr. Quy and the driver. However, Mr. Quy died, the driver was lucky to escape.
Currently, the body of comrade Quy has been brought to the Fire Prevention and Rescue Team of An Khe town to hand over to his family and the unit to organize the burial.
