Jaguar says that with 50 kW public charging stations, the I-Pace takes 1 hour and 25 minutes to charge to 80% capacity.

Exactly one year after the Jaguar I-Pace electric concept car was presented at the 2017 Geneva International Motor Show, the commercial version is ready to hit the shelves. Without making the world public wait long, Jaguar has released images of its first electric SUV.

  • The I-Pace has two electric motors with a total capacity of 394 horsepower and a maximum torque of 695 Nm. These two electric motors are located on the front and rear axles, while in the middle is a Lithium-ion battery system with a capacity of 90 kW/hour, helping to distribute the front and rear weight in a perfect 50:50 ratio and the vehicle's center of gravity is minimized, promising to bring an impressive driving feeling when accelerating or "hugging" corners.

  • "Distributing weight evenly across the front and rear axles was a real challenge when we started researching the I-Pace. It's environmentally friendly but it has to operate like a real Jaguar," said Ian Hoban, Product Director.

  • Jaguar claims the aluminium structure used on the I-Pace is highly rigid, even "the stiffest structure ever". The production version is 12mm narrower and 12mm lower than the concept car.

  • In terms of suspension, similar to the Jaguar XE, the manufacturer equips a double wishbone suspension system on the front axle and a multi-link suspension system with air shock absorbers (optional) and an active body stabilization system.

  • In terms of range, Jaguar says the I-Pace has a range of up to 480 km on a full charge. After 30 minutes of charging, the car can travel 128 km. In addition to 50 kW charging stations, the I-Pace's socket is also compatible with 100 kW fast charging stations (for a fee), with a 45-minute charge time to 80% of the battery.

Fast charging stations are not yet available in the UK, but Jaguar reassures customers that they will be available when the first I-Pace is delivered next summer. With the same amount of energy, in household conditions, the car takes 10 hours to charge. Notably, to improve the performance of the battery system, Jaguar provides users with energy management software on the I-Pace.
