(Baonghean) - Over the past few days, priest Dang Huu Nam, parish priest of Phu Yen, An Hoa commune, Quynh Luu district, has been violating the law, pushing women, the elderly and children onto the streets, and preaching and distorting the history of the country's reunification day on April 30, 1975.

Anti-government

April 30, 1975 has gone down in the history of the nation as a brilliant milestone, bringing our country into a new era, the era of national independence and socialism. From now on, our entire Party, people and army will concentrate their strength and intelligence to heal the wounds of war, build a new life; build and protect the socialist Fatherland of Vietnam.

Priest Dang Huu Nam continuously preaches distorting history and violating the law.

In recent days, when the army and people of the whole country are organizing many practical activities to pay tribute to the heroic martyrs who sacrificed for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland, and made the victory of April 30, 1975, priest Dang Huu Nam, parish priest of Phu Yen, An Hoa commune, Quynh Luu district, preached in the church with words that distorted history, incited and arrogant such as: "... April 30 is a day of mourning for the nation, the parish...", "April 30 is the day when the Vietnamese people lost their freedom; the day when the Vietnamese people did not have the right to be human; the day that made the country mourn; the day that made the country backward and poor; the day that Vietnam lost the opportunity to develop; the day that created injustice in all parts of the country; the day that marked the Vietnamese people preparing to enter slavery to foreign countries; April 30 is the darkest day of the Vietnamese people...".

These are vulnerable groups in society who need to be protected, cared for, and looked after, but they were pushed out into the streets to hang banners and slogans, serving as a shield for the extremist priest.

This action has seriously violated the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child and the Law on Children. Not only that, the recent actions of Father Dang Huu Nam inciting and inciting parishioners to carry banners and slogans against the government have caused insecurity and disorder, destabilized the situation in the area, divided the solidarity of Catholics and non-Catholics, and seriously violated Vietnamese law.

Apologize to veterans in general, and to the people and veterans of An Hoa commune, Quynh Luu district in particular, for his statements distorting and defaming history, denying the revolutionary achievements that many generations of Vietnamese people have shed so much effort, blood, and tears to achieve the victory day of April 30, 1975.

3. We request that authorities at all levels take resolute measures to promptly prevent all reactionary activities and take measures to handle priest Dang Huu Nam before the law. We see that all activities and words of priest Dang Huu Nam have sufficient evidence to prosecute before the law.

4. The President of the Vietnamese Bishops' Council and the Archbishop of the Hanoi Archdiocese need to direct the Vinh Diocese to prevent priest Dang Huu Nam from continuing to repeat the above misconduct.

5. Mr. Nguyen Thai Hop, Bishop of Vinh Diocese, Chairman of the Justice and Peace Committee of the Vietnam Bishops' Conference; Mr. Nguyen Van Dinh, Administrator of Thuan Nghia, Chairman of the Justice and Peace Committee of Vinh Diocese, need to take measures to prevent the illegal acts of priest Dang Huu Nam. In their positions, they are the ones who understand better than anyone in the diocese the meaning and value of peace, independence, and freedom in the past, allowing priest Dang Huu Nam to engage in subversive activities without being punished. Could it be that they did not know or did they assist, direct, and "give the green light" to the above violations of priest Dang Huu Nam (as Dang Huu Nam declared to parishioners at Phu Yen Church on May 1, 2017).
