The Ministry of Industry and Trade has just proposed that the US consider removing steel and aluminum products imported from Vietnam from the tax scope.

US President Donald Trump has just signed an order imposing tariffs on imported steel and aluminum, except from Canada and Mexico. White House officials said the tariffs areessential to the country's domestic and economic security.

Following the above information, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has spoken out to request the US to consider excluding steel and aluminum products imported from Vietnam. This agency reaffirmed that steel and aluminum imported from Vietnam are only for civil construction, not used in infrastructure construction or national security. These products also do not compete directly with US companies.

In addition, aluminum and steel from Vietnam account for an insignificant proportion of total aluminum and steel imports into the US. Therefore, it cannot cause or threaten the US steel and aluminum industry. On the contrary, this policy will directly affect US consumers and industries that use aluminum and steel as input materials here.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade said it will continue to closely monitor developments and consider solutions to ensure legitimate rights for businesses, while continuing to promote relations with the US. Under the new regulations, some steel and aluminum products imported into the US will be subject to a 25% tax on steel and a 10% tax on aluminum. This decision will take effect 15 days after the signing date.
