The funeral of former Prime Minister Phan Van Khai will be held under the national mourning protocol on March 20-21. Government offices and public places will fly flags at half-mast and entertainment activities will be suspended.
The former Prime Minister's coffin lies in state at the Thong Nhat Hall in Ho Chi Minh City. The funeral will be held for two days, from 8am on March 20 to March 21.The funeral will take place at 7:30 a.m. on March 22, and the burial will take place at 11 a.m. the same day at his hometown cemetery in Tan Thong Hoi commune, Cu Chi district, Ho Chi Minh City.

At the same time, in Hanoi, the memorial service for former Prime Minister Phan Van Khai was held at the International Conference Center at 11 Le Hong Phong.
Vietnam Television and Voice of Vietnam will broadcast live the funeral, memorial service and burial ceremony of the former Prime Minister in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi.
Mr. Phan Van Khai (commonly known as Sau Khai) was born on December 25, 1933 in Tan Thong Hoi commune, Cu Chi district, Ho Chi Minh City. He joined the revolutionary movement in 1947 at the age of 14. He joined the Party at the age of 26 and held the following positions: Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, Chairman of the State Planning Commission, Vice Chairman of the Council of Ministers, and Deputy Prime Minister.
In September 1997, he was elected Prime Minister; in July 2002, he was re-elected Prime Minister for a second term. In June 2006, he resigned one year before the end of his term.
The former Prime Minister was a member of the Party Central Committee of the 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th terms; a member of the Politburo of the 7th, 8th, and 9th terms; a member of the Standing Committee of the Politburo of the 8th term; and a National Assembly delegate of the 8th, 9th, 10th, and 11th terms.
