(Baonghean.vn) - Test results show that the bottle of wine that poisoned 4 people, of which 3 died in Nghe An, contained Koumin, a compound found in the aconite plant.

As reported by baonghean.vn, the poisoning incident occurred at 2:30 p.m. on March 12, 2018 at the house of Mr. Moong Van Di residing in Cha Lan village, Huu Lap commune, Ky Son district when four people, brothers, husband and wife, in the same family, organized a drinking party. After drinking for 30 minutes, all four people had symptoms of dizziness, lightheadedness, and fainting.

(Baonghean.vn) - Regarding the case of 3 deaths and 1 critical condition after drinking wine soaked with forest plants in Ky Son, Ky Son District Police (Nghe An) has sealed the bottle of wine soaked with forest plants believed to be the cause of the death of 3 Khmu victims in Cha Lan village, Huu Lap commune to serve the investigation.


Immediately afterwards, the victims were taken to the Ky Son District Medical Center for emergency treatment and three people died: Mr. Moong Van Di (40 years old), Mrs. Lo Thi Van (40 years old, Mr. Di's wife) and his younger brother Moong Van Tue (37 years old), and Mr. Lu Van Kham (24 years old, Mr. Di's brother-in-law) were transferred to the Provincial General Hospital for emergency treatment.

After receiving the information, Nghe An Department of Health directed the Provincial Food Safety and Hygiene Department to send a delegation of officials to Ky Son district to investigate and supervise.

Based on monitoring results, the Provincial Food Safety Department has determined that the above poisoning case is suspected to be caused by drinking wine soaked with roots of an unidentified forest plant.

Immediately afterwards, samples of the wine the victims drank were sent to the National Institute for Food Safety and Hygiene for testing.

The test results of the National Institute for Food Safety and Hygiene Control showed that the cause of the poisoning of 04 people, of which 03 died in Ban Cha Lan, Huu Lap commune, Ky Son district, was Koumin, a compound found in the aconite plant. Koumin is one of the components that make up the alkaloid found in the aconite plant, such as Gelsenicin, Gelsamydin, Gelsemoxonin, etc.

The plant is also known by many other names such as Cau van, Doan truong thao, etc. The plant is commonly found in the mountainous districts of the West of Nghe An province.

To prevent poisoning due to the mistaken use of the aconite plant, local authorities at all levels, sectors and mass organizations need to focus on widely disseminating information on the media and in many forms about the harmful effects and dangers to life when using parts of the aconite plant.

At the same time, instructions are given to distinguish the Aconite plant from other plants, and people are advised to absolutely not use parts of the Aconite plant or plants of unknown origin to soak in wine or in other forms.
