I think we are all one team and I say this not only to those present here but also to those outside Red Square, in Moscow and all over Russia – those who voted for me and helped me get this good result.”
A whole new Cabinet?
Also in the above speech, Mr. Putin affirmed that immediately after the inauguration, he will carry out a series of changes in the Russian Government: “All changes in the Russian Government will have to be made by the newly elected President after he takes office. Therefore, at this time, I need to consider what I need to do and how to do it. Any disruptions to the Cabinet will only take place after the inauguration.”
Russian President Putin revealed that he has no intention of reforming the Constitution in the future and said that he will discuss directly with other presidential candidates: "We will do so. The Russian government will contact them and I will invite them all to meet."
Russia-China relations, the Ukraine issue and Russia-EU tensions
Regarding the Ukraine issue, Mr. Putin affirmed that he will do everything possible to make Ukrainian citizens “feel at home” when living in Russia. Mr. Putin also condemned the poor treatment of Russian voters when they voted in Ukraine, but affirmed that he would not seek retaliation.
“This is unacceptable and violates all international norms. However, Russia will not retaliate. For us, Ukrainians are brothers. I have said this many times.”
The Russian President also said that Russia has interests in developing relations with all countries in the world and emphasized that Russia is also ready to overcome all obstacles in its relations with Europe. "Despite all difficulties, Russia and the EU are still ready to cooperate and exchange with each other to overcome them together," Mr. Putin emphasized.
Russian President Putin said that he considers China a strategic partner and emphasized that Russia values its relationship with China and intends to expand it: “Russia-China relations are at an unprecedented high level. We value this relationship very much.
We congratulated Xi Jinping on his re-election as General Secretary of the Communist Party of China and expressed our confidence that China, under Xi Jinping's leadership, will work with Russia to do everything possible to strengthen cooperation between the two countries.
Challenges ahead
Despite his optimism about the future, Mr. Putin still admitted that Russia faces “a series of challenges” but expressed confidence that Russia will overcome them: “We need to understand that there are many challenges waiting for us and we need to overcome them. We must fulfill our national responsibilities and I have faith in you.”
“I am not saying this for fun. We need a decisive step forward and we will do it. The important thing is to unite the efforts of everyone, no matter who they voted for,” the Russian president stressed.
We are facing very complex challenges that need to be solved, not day-to-day work. We need to move forward and we will achieve our goals.”
Not running for re-election in 2030
Finally, when asked about the possibility of him running for the 2030 presidential term, the Russian President affirmed that this was "absolutely ridiculous": "I think that what people are talking about is absolutely ridiculous. Just do the math and you will see that if it continues like this, I will be in power until I am 100 years old. There is no such thing."
