Mr. Pham Ngoc Ba, Head of Residential Group No. 3 (where Mr. Manh and Ms. Ngoc live) said: “My husband and I have never had any arguments. However, on March 16, when I returned from the hospital, I saw two officials from the court come down to work on the matter of my husband and I wanting to divorce. At that time, I was very surprised...”.

According to him, Mr. Manh is an active citizen of the locality. On March 14, he represented the neighborhood group in the Spring chess tournament organized by the ward. On March 19, Mr. Ba called Mr. Manh to invite him to the neighborhood group's party, but he said he was busy with family matters and had to go to Phu Tho province to attend the funeral.

Mr. Ba added that the person who wrote and filed for divorce earlier was Ms. Ngoc.

On the afternoon of March 19, the police asked him to go with them to the family of Mr. Manh and Ms. Ngoc to find out about Ms. Ngoc's mother calling from the lowlands to say that Mr. Manh intended to kill both mother and daughter.

''When I went over, I heard the family say that Ngoc called and said a few words then hung up. The content was that her husband was threatening her...'' - Mr. Ba said and said that afterwards, he and the police called both husband and wife's numbers but could not get through.

The police have yet to determine the cause of death of Mr. Manh, his wife and the baby. The case is still under investigation.
