Russian officer dies while shielding his comrades from bullets
An officer was killed while shielding soldiers during grenade throwing practice at a Russian military base.

A Russian Army officer was killed during a routine exercise at a military base in the southwestern Belgorod region while trying to protect a soldier from a hand grenade explosion, the press office of the Western Military District of the Russian army said.
“On March 20, an army officer was killed during a routine exercise at the training ground while performing a grenade throwing exercise from a trench,” the press office said.
According to TASS, a grenade accidentally slipped out of the hands of a conscript after the pin was pulled. The army officer quickly pushed the soldier aside while he was still confused, then used his body to shield the soldier when the grenade exploded.
“As a result of the grenade explosion, the officer suffered multiple injuries while the soldier was unhurt. Doctors tried their best but could not save him,” the press office added.
According to the press office, the commanders of the military base in Belgorod have proposed awarding the army officer a medal for his heroic actions./.
