According to initial information on the afternoon of March 16, Ms. Le Thi Hoa went to her family's boarding house in Ben San hamlet, Phuoc Thien commune, Nhon Trach district to check. When she arrived at the room of Ms. Ngo Thi Ly, 33 years old, from Nghe An, a worker renting the house, Ms. Hoa smelled a strong odor coming from inside. Thinking something was wrong, she reported it to the local authorities.
When breaking the door, the police discovered Ms. Ly dead in the bathroom. After screening the suspects, the Police Investigation Agency identified Duong as the suspect in Ms. Ly's murder.
At the police station, Duong confessed his actions. According to the police, Duong and Ms. Ly had been in a relationship for about 2 years. Recently, Ms. Ly asked to break up with Duong, so on the afternoon of March 12, while Ms. Ly was sleeping in her rented room, Duong suddenly broke into the room, used an electric cord to strangle the victim to death, then dragged the victim's body into the bathroom.

On March 17, after learning that the police were investigating the case, Duong panicked and fled to Kien Giang to work. After discovering Duong Dang hiding at the construction site at Ha ferry, the authorities swooped in, arrested him, and extradited Duong to Dong Nai.
