Lam River embankment landslide risks losing residential road
(Baonghean) - After heavy rains and floods, the Lam River embankment through Xuan Lam commune (Nam Dan) is seriously degraded, collapsing and creating large frog jaws, threatening the residential roads and production land of many households.
More than 10 years ago, many people living in Xuan Lam commune were always worried about landslides along the Lam river; many hectares of crop land were washed away by the river and there were still no signs of stopping.
By 2012, the people were excited because the commune received an anti-erosion project with a budget of more than 3 billion VND, embankment length of more than 1km, implemented by the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development. However, due to the impact of prolonged rain and floods, the Lam River bed was deeply eroded, the embankment was seriously eroded, making many people here very worried.

Some residents near the landslide site are living in fear day and night. Because if it is not repaired soon, it will directly affect the lives of the people. Mr. Nguyen Van Thanh (56 years old, resident of Xuan Lam commune) said: "People are very confused, afraid that the embankment will continue to collapse, we will lose our production land. The newly built residential road for people to conveniently travel to farm will disappear if not quickly repaired."

Mr. Nguyen Xuan Lam, a local resident, shared: "We have petitioned the authorities many times about the embankment erosion, but so far there has been no action to fix it, which makes us very worried."
Ms. Nguyen Thi Tra Giang - Vice Chairman of Xuan Lam Commune People's Committee said: The landslide situation on the river bank in the area is extremely alarming. With the naked eye, it can be seen that the rock adhesion on the embankment is not good. The embankment has sunk dozens of meters, making the locality very worried. The locality will soon report the landslide situation on Lam river bank to the authorities to have a plan to promptly overcome it, ensuring safe travel for residents and production.

The erosion of the Lam River bank, flowing through Xuan Lam commune, has been happening for many years now. After each flood, the river embankment appears to have more serious erosion. It is thought that the authorities at all levels need to quickly overcome this situation, so that the people here can feel secure in their production and stabilize their lives.
