The Vietnam Logistics Services Association (VLA) has just sent a proposal to three ministries: Finance, Industry and Trade, and Transport to allow imported, unused cars to be transported by air, instead of just within the scope of 5 seaports as before.

According to VLA, the proposal aims to support the business community operating in the logistics sector and is also the desire of car importers.

According to Circular 25/2010/TT-BGTVT regulating the management of inland ports and wharves, new, fully-built vehicles with less than 16 seats can only be imported into Vietnam through 5 international seaports: Cai Lan (Quang Ninh), Hai Phong, Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City and Ba Ria-Vung Tau. Customs declaration procedures are carried out right at these border gates. This limitation is considered one of the measures to help reduce traffic congestion and control the import of cars...

VLA believes that if the above proposal is approved, it will create some advantages such as increasing import tax revenue for the state budget, because air freight is currently higher than sea freight. In addition, adding more border gates for imported vehicles will help reduce delivery time for businesses.
