The United States urged the Russian Federation to help prevent chemical attacks in Syria, while once again accusing Moscow of supporting the Syrian government.

"The United States calls on Russia to end its unconditional support (for the Syrian government) and work with the international community to prevent further chemical attacks," said US State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert.

At the same time, the US once again indirectly accused the Syrian government and Moscow of using chemical weapons in unconfirmed attacks. Ms. Nauert said that the US is closely monitoring the situation in Douma (Syria), where there are reports of a large number of chemical attack victims.

The Syrian government has repeatedly denied using chemical weapons and blamed militants. Russia has also rejected the US accusations and said it supports an investigation into the incident to punish those responsible.
