Surprised with the "super dirty" interior of the car

Research from a university in the UK shows that the cars we use every day have 22 times more bacteria than mobile phones.

Cars are becoming more and more affordable these days. For new drivers with limited budget, buying a used car is an optimal choice. If you are lucky, you will receive a used car with a clean interior, no smell, everything is still as great as a new car.

But in the opposite situation, you will be shocked when you open the car door: hair, peeling skin, fingernails, and dozens of worse things left by the previous owner, as if you have just excavated the car.

The cars we use every day have 22 times more bacteria than mobile phones.

A study by the University of Nottingham (UK) in 2015 took 15 random cars for research, they found E. coli, a type of bacteria often found in toxic foods, besides they also found Staphylococcus - a type of bacteria that can cause many infections in the body, especially on human skin.

Another study conducted in 2016 by a microbiologist at the University of Salford, Manchester (UK) also came to a very surprising conclusion when the car we use every day has 22 times more bacteria than a mobile phone.

Surprised by the results from the scientists, reporters at Car and Driver asked two microbiologists, Dr. Robert Cannon and Laura Fondario-Grubbs of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, Northern California (USA) to take a look at the car they were using. After taking samples from the seats, steering wheel, dashboard, driver-side carpet and trunk, they brought them back to the lab for testing. Although E. coli and Staphylococcus were present, most of the bacteria they found were harmless.

Sharing about this result, Dr. Robert Cannon said: "How long bacteria survive will depend on temperature, humidity, and whether they can absorb water and food to reproduce. Humans - that is, drivers and passengers in the car and the things we carry such as fast food, beer, soft drinks, ... will be important sources of nutrients for these microorganisms.

Without this source of nutrition, the bacteria begin to die. When parked in direct sunlight, the interior of a car can reach over 170 degrees, or on a cold winter day, the temperature inside the interior will drop. These extreme weather conditions will greatly affect the survival of microorganisms. Therefore, it is very important to take care of and clean the car you use every day."

Here are the top 5 places with the most bacteria. In fifth place is the steering wheel, the place the driver touches the most in the car, followed by the radio control panel, which has many buttons with gaps, ideal habitats for bacteria. In third and second place are the trunk and the driver's seat, two places that are quite difficult to clean. In first place is the floor covering where the driver's seat is the dirtiest and is the place that receives the most dirt from the outside environment./.
