"Russia vows to shoot down any and all missiles fired at Syria. Get ready Russia because missiles are coming, nice and new and 'smart'," Reuters quoted US President Donald Trump as writing on Twitter.

The US president also criticized Moscow for siding with the government of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, whom he described as "killing civilians and enjoying it".

Earlier, Russian Ambassador to Lebanon Alexander Zasypkin announced on the evening of April 10 on Hezbollah's al-Manar TV channel that if the US attacks Syria, "all missiles, even the launchers, will be shot down." Zasypkin said he onlyechoed the words of Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chief of the General Staff of the Russian army Valery Gerasimov.

Responding to the White House boss's statement, on her personal Facebook page, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova wrote: "Smart missiles should only target terrorists, not the legitimate government that has been fighting international terrorism on its territory for many years."

Ms. Zakharova added that the US missile attack on Syria could be aimed at destroying and erasing evidence related to the alleged use of chemical weapons in Douma.

Not long after his tweet warning of missiles being aimed at Syria, President Trump posted another message. The White House boss said that the relationship between the US and Russia is at an "all-time low", worse than the Cold War era.

“There is no reason for this. Russia needs our economic help, which is easy to do. And we need all nations to work together. How about ending the arms race?” he wrote.

ThoseRecent developments suggest the US is about to launch an airstrike on Syria after the government army was accused of using chemical weapons in the town of Douma, Eastern Ghouta, on April 7, killing 70 people.

The Russian Foreign Ministry denied the US accusations and said that any attack on Syria based on fabricated and fabricated evidence is unacceptable and will lead to catastrophic consequences.

All Syrian government military units and allied forces are on high combat alert. The Russian Navy's Black Sea Fleet is also on the highest alert. On the other hand, the Kremlin called on the US and its allies not to take any actions that could cause tension and instability in Syria.
