Reuters news agency reported on April 11 that the Russian military is closely following the route of the US Navy. Satellite images and media reports said that 11 Russian warships, including a submarine, left a port in Syria.

Among the Russian warships set to leave port in Syria is a Kilo-class attack submarine, considered one of the quietest and most advanced submarines in operation today.

While Russian ships are less sophisticated in some respects, they are often equipped with modern anti-ship missiles that could pose a real threat to the US side.

However, according to Mr. Ryan Bohl, Middle East analyst at geopolitical consulting firm Stratfor on Business Insider: "Neither Russia nor the US wants World War III to break out, they know how to avoid such a war and have open lines of communication."

The expert said the Russian navy's move was likely "to increase the risk to the American people in order to pressure President Trump to limit the scale of any upcoming attack."
