Fishing boat crew lost hand at sea
(Baonghean.vn)- A crew member of fishing boat NA 97201 TS lost his right hand due to an accident while working at sea and was promptly rescued by the Vietnam Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center.
At 05:54 on April 14, 2018, the Vietnam Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center received information that fishing vessel NA 97201 TS, captained by Mr. Nguyen Quang Sang, born in 1965 in Quynh Luu, was fishing at sea and had 01 crew member, Mr. Pham Van Thao, born in 1970, who had a work accident.
The victim's right hand was severed due to being tangled in the winch, losing a lot of blood, and was in very bad condition and needed emergency care. Faced with the critical situation, the captain sent out an urgent request for assistance.

Immediately after receiving the information, the Vietnam Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center immediately deployed professional measures, directly connected, and instructed the crew on board to perform important first aid steps for the victim, and instructed them to apply a tourniquet to stop the bleeding.

Because the ship did not have any medicine or medical equipment and was unable to treat the victim, the Vietnam Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center mobilized the specialized search and rescue ship SAR 411, which was on duty in the shared fishing waters between Vietnam and China, to quickly deploy a rescue plan.
At the same time, request ship NA 97201 TS to quickly proceed towards the rescue ship, maintain contact with the rescue ship to continuously update the status of the injured crew member, and receive necessary instructions to maintain the victim's life while waiting for the rescue ship to approach.

At this time, the Gulf of Tonkin is being affected by the Northeast monsoon, strong winds and rough seas causing many difficulties for SAR 411 ship on its way to rescue the crew of NA 97201 TS ship.
At 1:30 p.m. on April 14, the rescue team arrived and transferred the injured victim to SAR 411 for first aid. At 5:00 p.m. the same day, SAR 411 brought crew member Pham Van Thao to Cua Lo wharf and then transferred him to the hospital for further treatment./.
