Russia: UN Security Council fails to make clear ruling
(Baonghean.vn) - The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) held an emergency meeting at Russia's request to discuss the US-UK-France coalition's military strikes on Syria in response to a chemical attack. This was the fifth consecutive meeting of the Security Council to discuss Syria, but no decision was made.

After the emergency meeting, Russia's permanent representative to the UN Vasily Nebenzia was not surprised by the decision of the permanent and non-permanent members of the Security Council.
African countries seek to maintain neutrality with a stance of not accepting the use of chemical weapons and calling for respect for the UN Charter.
Mr. Vasily said that the debate at the Security Council largely “repeated” the content of previous meetings, without reaching any conclusions or assigning specific responsibility.
“Russia has repeatedly warned about the dangerous consequences of the attack on Syria, but has always received harsh criticism from Western members. Meanwhile, the US and its allies have always tried to justify their actions, accusing Russia of protecting Damascus from responsibility for the use of chemical weapons,” said Russia’s Permanent Representative to the UN Vasily Nebenzia.
In the resolution submitted to the Security Council, Russia condemned and expressed indignation at “the aggressive actions of the United States and its allies, which seriously violate the UN Charter and international law”, and demanded that all parties “immediately and without delay” stop military activities, and strictly implement the UN charter.
However, Russia's resolution did not receive support from Council members. Four countries abstained from voting for the resolution, while only China and Bolivia voted in favor of Russia, while Russia received eight votes against from eight members, including the US, UK, and France.
Not only did she oppose Russia's Resolution at the Security Council's emergency meeting, US Permanent Representative Nikki Haley even warned that the US is ready to inflict more "painful blows" on Syria if the use of chemical weapons continues.
“The attack on Syria sent a clear message: the United States will not allow the Assad regime to continue using chemical weapons,” Nikki Haley stressed.
At this time, all eyes of international public opinion are on Moscow, waiting for Russia's response after the attack by the US, UK and France on Syria.
So far, President Putin and Russian officials have only issued statements condemning the attack and calling for an urgent meeting of the Security Council. Russia is still “sitting still”.
Although previously, Russia announced that it would intercept all US missiles aimed at Syria and Russian military forces in the country.
According to the latest data from the Russian Defense Ministry, Syrian forces intercepted at least 71 out of 103 missiles fired by the US and its allies at the capital Damascus and many other areas in Syria.
