Information about the 76-year-old former coach's health was shared by Man Utd through two consecutive tweets in the early afternoon of May 5, London time.
"Sir Alex Ferguson underwent emergency surgery today after a brain haemorrhage. The surgery went well but he needs special care to recover as best he can. His family would like to remain private about this matter. Everyone at Man Utd sends him and his family our best wishes," the Old Trafford team announced onTwitter.
In another announcement, an hour and a half later, the accountTwitterMan Utd wrote: "Our thoughts are with Sir Alex and his family at this time, and we wish him a speedy recovery and a speedy recovery."
At around the same time, Darren Ferguson - Ferguson's son and current Doncaster Rovers manager - asked permission to be absent from the team's final Third Division match against Wigan, due to "family matters".According toSky Sports, Ferguson had a period of falling into "critical condition".

Many former students, colleagues, English and Scottish football clubs and FIFA have sent messages of well wishes to Ferguson, and shared with his family.
"My thoughts and prayers are with you, my dear friend. Be strong, sir," Cristiano Ronaldo wrote on social media with a photo taken with Ferguson during his time at Man Utd. The Portuguese superstar was brought to Manchester by Ferguson in 2003, when he was just 18. That was the launching pad that helped him become one of the best players in the world today.
Former goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel wrote: "Be strong, sir. Win this match."

Ferguson is the most successful manager in the history of English football. He led the Scottish club Arberdeen to win the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1983 and the European Super Cup in the same year. After moving to Man Utd in November 1986, he and the club created a glorious era with 38 titles, including 13 Premier League titles and 2 Champions League titles. He decided to leave Man Utd and retire right after the Premier League title in 2013.
