This was stated by Viktor Bondarev, Chairman of the Defense and Security Committee of the Federation Council of Russia. Earlier, the commander of the Southern Military District, Colonel General Aleksandr Dvornikov, announced that the air defense forces in Crimea will receive new equipment this year, completing the units with S-400 missiles and the Pantsir-S anti-aircraft missile-gun complex.

"We are seeing NATO activity in the Black Sea region and an increase in their explicit attention to the Crimean peninsula. Sometimes NATO warships patrol the Black Sea, and then reconnaissance planes fly over the islands in the airspace. In addition, in the country bordering Crimea, Ukraine, the Americans act brazenly and blatantly, never before seen.

Taking into account the fact of increased tensions in relations between Russia and a number of Western countries, which were not initiated by Moscow, we can explain all these actions as unfriendly. And, of course, we intend to protect the country's territory and borders," Bondarev said.

According to him, the deployment of S-400 complexes in Crimea meets the national security interests of the Russian Federation.
