23 years in prison for the flirtatious gangster

The Hanoi People's Court has just opened the first instance trial of Tran Thanh Hai for the crimes of Illegal detention (Article 123 of the 1999 Penal Code), Illegal possession of military weapons (Article 230 of the 1999 Penal Code), and Fraudulent appropriation of property (Article 139 of the 1999 Penal Code).
Appearing together in court, defendants Tran Xuan Tinh, To Hoai Nam, Tran Quoc Viet, Nguyen Van Hoai and Nguyen Van Duy were tried for the crime of Illegal detention (Article 123 of the 1999 Penal Code)..
Hai, originally from Nam Dinh, went to prison when he was 17 years old and continued to be in trouble with the law until he was 22 years old for theft and robbery. After being released from prison,Hai has lived as husband and wife with Ms. Dinh Thi Hien for nearly 10 years and has two children together.
In 2012, he and some of his followers went to Saigon to cause a shooting in the city center. That time, Hai was prosecuted for Intentional Infliction of Injury and received 11 months in prison. After his prison term ended, Hai returned to Nam Dinh and recruited many followers to help him solve "jobs".

Near the end of May 2016, upon receiving information that Ms. Hien was staying at a hotel on Hao Nam Street (Dong Da District), Hai drove a Porsche carrying his men to the place where he beat and arrested the victim and took her back to her hometown in Nam Dinh. He forced Ms. Hien to write a confession of giving drugs to his girlfriend.After writing, Hai continued to beat the victim and took her back to Hanoi to the hospital for treatment.
Nearly two months later, he drove his gang from Nam Dinh to Ha Dong General Hospital, where Ms. Hien was visiting an acquaintance, and arrested the victim.took Ms. Hien back to Bac Giang, forced her to apologize to her girlfriend's parents who were in prison and kept the victim at a motel.
Detectives from the Ministry of Public Security had to intervene and rescue Ms. Hien, who was suffering from multiple injuries. Hai and five of his men were arrested. The police also seized Hai’s K59 gun and four bullets.
While investigating the case of arresting and possessing guns, the investigation agency also determined that Hai had defrauded a woman - his girlfriend - of 2.4 billion VND. According to the documents, Hai knew that she wanted to sell a luxury apartment because she did not have enough money to pay the investor. He promised to help sell the apartment, told her to take care of the money, pay the investor, and if she was short, he would lend her money. Hai had appropriated 2.4 billion VND from his girlfriend.
When brought to trial, Hai only admitted to arresting Ms. Hien, possessing the K59 gun and claimed that he did not commit fraud. However, the court determined that the victim had recorded all the conversations between Hai and Ms. Huyen about giving and receiving the money.
Determining sufficient grounds for Hai's criminal behavior, the court sentenced the defendant to a total of 23 years in prison for the three charges brought against him. The remaining five defendants received sentences ranging from 15 months to 42 months in prison.
