Prosecution and arrest of subjects who spoke ill of leaders on Facebook

On May 9, information from Thanh Hoa Provincial Police said that this agency has just initiated a case, prosecuted the accused and issued an order to temporarily detain Nguyen Duy Son (37 years old, residing in Bac Son ward, Sam Son city) for the crime of "Abusing democratic freedoms to infringe upon the interests of the State, the rights and legitimate interests of organizations and citizens".

According to the case file: from December 2017 to March 2018, Son directly created and used a Facebook account with the nickname "Nguyen Son" to post articles distorting, defaming, and discrediting leaders of the Party, State, and Thanh Hoa province.

The way Son did it was to access social networking sites to get information related to corruption and negativity issues, then distort and defame the Party, the State and its leaders, then post and share publicly on his personal Facebook page with comments, illustrations, and untrue and baseless evidence to defame and discredit the Party, State and local leaders.

All the comments and shares were created by Son himself and posted on his personal page to mislead readers, causing confusion among the masses. It is known that Nguyen Duy Son used to be a student management officer at Sam Son University Preparatory School, and was later forced to quit his job.

Currently, Thanh Hoa Provincial Police are continuing to investigate and clarify./.
