Mr. Hoang Xuan Tin - Chairman of Loc Thuy Cooperative, Quynh Bang Commune said that the Cooperative currently has 28 households raising shrimp on an area of 40 hectares, the total area released is 25 hectares. However, due to unfavorable weather, many shrimp areas of the people are affected by diseases. The whole Cooperative has about 12 hectares of shrimp infected with white spot disease. For the growing shrimp areas, the Cooperative urgently directed people to monitor and check the growth of shrimp, and at the same time have solutions for care and protection.

Not only Loc Thuy Cooperative, in Quynh Bang commune there are currently about 14.5 hectares of shrimp infected with white spot disease.

According to farmers, some ponds have had shrimp floating on the water surface and then dying. In response to the above incident, the local authorities have reported it to their superiors to take preventive measures. After the District Veterinary Station came to take samples for testing, it was determined that the cause of shrimp death was white spot disease.

According to statistics from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, in the 2018 shrimp crop, the entire Quynh Luu district had 465 hectares of intensive shrimp farming area. As of May 11, nearly 22 hectares of shrimp were affected by disease, mainly white spot and hepatopancreas. The age of shrimp affected by the disease is from 20 to 60 days after release. On average, for 1 hectare of shrimp affected by the disease, farmers suffered a loss of over 50 million VND. Up to this point, the total loss of shrimp farmers in Quynh Luu is estimated at over 1 billion VND.

Not only in Quynh Luu, shrimp farmers in Hoang Mai town are also "restless" when the shrimp area affected by disease is increasing with 9 hectares, concentrated in Quynh Lien, Mai Hung, Quynh Xuan...

To prevent the outbreak of white spot disease in shrimp, the Quynh Luu District Veterinary Station and Hoang Mai Town have provided more than 9 tons of chlorine chemicals to households for environmental treatment. According to the recommendations of the authorities, for shrimp ponds infected with white spot disease, farmers should not rush to renovate them for immediate farming, but should let the pond rest for 1.5 - 2 months to eliminate the source of the disease and regenerate the bottom environment.
