Village boys fight, 1 dead, 4 in prison
(Baonghean.vn) - Being surrounded and beaten, Lo Van Thuong pulled out a switchblade and stabbed randomly forward. The strong stab caused the knife to penetrate Lo Van Vuong's stomach, causing severe blood loss leading to his death.
On the morning of May 17, the Provincial People's Court opened a first-instance criminal trial to try Lo Van Thuong (born in 1997, residing in Tam Dinh commune, Tuong Duong district) for the crime of "Murder"; Vi Van Cuong (born in 1994, residing in Thach Giam commune, Tuong Duong district), Lo Van Nam (born in 1998) and Lo Van Tuyen (born in 1998), all residing in Tam Thai commune, Tuong Duong district, for the crime of "Disturbing public order".
The investigation and debate at the trial showed that: On the evening of December 17, 2017, Lo Van Thuong, Ngan Van Sang and some friends went to the house of an acquaintance in Can village, Tam Thai commune to attend a party. Here, Thuong's group met Lo Van Vuong (born 2001, residing in Tam Thai commune), Lo Van Tuyen, Vi Van Cuong and Lo Van Nam with some young people from Tam Thai commune.

Because before, when he went to Tam Dinh commune to play, he was chased and beaten by the youth of this commune, so Vuong told his friends to block and beat Thuong's group to get revenge. Vuong's group left the wedding and waited on the street. At this time, the party ended, Thuong and his friends left. Seeing a group of people standing in front, suspecting that they were being blocked and beaten, Thuong borrowed Sang's switchblade to defend themselves.
Seeing Thuong sitting on the back of Sang's motorbike to go home, Vuong approached, pulled her down and beat her. Tuyen, Cuong and Nam also joined in to help. Being surrounded and beaten, Thuong stabbed randomly forward with a knife and hit Vuong in the stomach. Seeing the victim collapse, Lo Van Thuong ran away and was taken home by Sang.
Lo Van Vuong was taken to the hospital for emergency treatment, but due to the wound hitting a vital area, causing acute blood loss, he died. On December 18, 2017, Lo Van Thuong turned himself in to the police, confessing his crime.
At the trial, the defendants confessed honestly and showed remorse. After the incident, Thuong’s family compensated Vuong’s family 68 million VND. The legal representative of the victim filed a petition to reduce the sentence for defendant Thuong.
Considering the case as a whole, the panel sentenced Lo Van Thuong to 7 years in prison for “Murder”, forcing the defendant to compensate the victim Lo Van Vuong’s family 137.5 million VND; the defendants Vi Van Cuong, Lo Van Nam, and Lo Van Tuyen were each sentenced to 6 months in prison for “Disturbing public order”.
