50 police officers check a series of cars, chasing the driver who hit and killed someone

After hitting and killing a man on a bicycle, driver Thong sped away but was surrounded and arrested by 50 police officers who set up a checkpoint.

On May 19, Huong Son District Police (Ha Tinh) announced that they had just summoned Mr. Nguyen Dinh Thong (56 years old, residing in Duc Tho District) to take a statement to investigate the violation of regulations on road traffic participation, according to Article 260 of the 2015 Penal Code.

According to investigation documents, at around 7:00 p.m. on May 17, Mr. Thong, while driving a 5-seat car on National Highway 8A through Son Long Commune (Huong Son District), fatally hit Mr. Pham Quang Hien (56 years old) who was riding a bicycle.

Driver Thong did not get off to take the victim to the hospital but drove away from the scene.Upon receiving the news, 50 police officers from Huong Son and Duc Tho districts divided into many groups to search for the car that caused the accident.

Authorities extracted camera images and set up checkpoints to check many black 4-7 seater cars passing through the area.

At around 7:30 a.m. on May 18, in Duc Chau commune (Duc Tho district), detectives discovered a black car with a dented front end and cracked windshield speeding towards Hung Nguyen district (Nghe An). Suspecting that this car was involved in the accident, the police followed, surrounded the car, asked it to stop, and invited the driver to the headquarters for questioning.

The driver of this car was Mr. Thong, who admitted to causing the accident that killed Mr. Hien.
