Many European companies will have to leave Iran because of US sanctions, German Chancellor Angela Merkel said after talks with Chinese Premier Li Keqiang.

At the same time, Ms. Angela Merkel also emphasized that the country respects the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (CAPA) on Iran's nuclear program.

"As for the Iran nuclear deal, of course it is not an ideal deal, but other options are even less stable," Merkel said.

In early May, US President Donald Trump announced the US unilateral withdrawal from the nuclear deal. He accused Tehran of enriching uranium and developing banned weapons, contrary to the terms of the agreement, after Israel claimed it had obtained relevant intelligence documents.

Mr Trump also ordered the immediate reinstatement of sanctions against Iran. Key sectors of the Iranian economy, including energy, petrochemicals and finance, will suffer as a result of the sanctions.

The remaining guarantors of the deal condemned Trump's decision, pointing out the dangerous consequences of the US withdrawal from the nuclear deal.
