Tan Ky District People's Court has just tried the criminal case against Tran Van Cong (born 1991), residing in Dang Son commune (Do Luong); Nguyen Viet Lac (born 1983) and Bui Xuan Tai (born 1989), both residing in Nghia Hop commune (Tan Ky) for the crime of“Theft of property".
During the period from January 28, 2018 to February 10, 2018, in the area of 3 districts Tan Ky, Nghia Dan, Do Luong, Tran Van Cong and his accomplices committed 05 thefts of property of 5 victims, with a total value of 117,569,000 VND..
Defendant Nguyen Viet Lac
In which Nguyen Viet Lac and Tran Van Cong committed 04 acts of property theft with a total value of 62,859,000 VND..Bui Xuan Tai and Tran Van Cong committed 01 act of theft of property worth 54,710,000 VND.
The most recent incident was at around 10:00 a.m. on February 8, 2018, Tran Van Cong invited Nguyen Viet Lac to find a way to trick Trang Ngoc Thao (born 1975), residing in block 3, Tan Ky town, Tan Ky district, to leave his house to steal property. Lac agreed and did it.
After determining that Mr. Thao was not at home, Lac drove a black and red YAMAHA SIRIUS motorbike with license plate number 37N6-5283 carrying Cong into Mr. Thao's house to steal property.
When arriving at Thao's house, Lac waited outside while Cong went inside to search for property. In the bedroom, Cong stole 5,900,000 VND; a used red Husqvarna Special 365 chainsaw next to the bedroom door, then went to where Lac was waiting and both headed towards the Tan Ky town roundabout.
On the way, Cong gave Lac 800,000 VND. He sold the stolen chainsaw to Dung, residing in Block 1, Tan Ky Town, Tan Ky District, for 4,500,000 VND..Cong gave Lac 2,500,000 VND. Cong and Lac spent this money for personal use.

The Tan Ky District Property Valuation Council concluded that Mr. Trang Ngoc Thao's chainsaw was worth 6,790,000 VND. The total value of the stolen property was 12,690,000 VND. Currently, the Tan Ky District Police Investigation Agency has recovered the chainsaw and returned it to the victim. Mr. Trang Ngoc Thao continues to request compensation of 5,900,000 VND.
On February 11, 2018, realizing that their actions were illegal, Nguyen Viet Lac, Tran Van Cong and Bui Xuan Tai voluntarily went to Tan Ky District Police to confess their crimes.
At the investigation agency, all three confessed to their crimes in accordance with the documents and evidence collected in the case file.
Previously, Tran Van Cong had served 46 months in prison for the crime."Theft of property".Nguyen Viet Lac also has 5 previous convictions with 10 years and 9 months in prison for theft, which has not been cleared. Now both have completed their sentences.
At the end of the trial, the jury sentenced Tran Van Cong to 5 years and 6 months in prison, Nguyen Viet Lac to 5 years in prison and Bui Xuan Tai to 30 months in prison, suspended for 60 months of probation. The defendants must compensate the victim a total of 49,172,000 VND.
