Mr. Gu was elected as Vice President in charge of VFF communications in 2014. He was also a candidate for this position in the Congress scheduled to be held in June. He suddenly resigned and did not participate in the election due to an incident related to a love affair.

The VFF Vice President declared that he had a relationship with this girl and did not register for temporary residence, leading to an administrative fine.

After this incident, VFF planned an extraordinary executive meeting to discipline Mr. Gu. However, the VFF Vice President in charge of communications decided to resign before the meeting took place.“I tried to contribute to Vietnamese football but got into this incident. This is a lesson for me. I was also very sad when 15 minutes after submitting my resignation, the information was immediately leaked by the VFF,” he added.

Mr. Gu is the second senior leader of Vietnamese football to resign within a week. On May 22, Mr. Tran Manh Hung - Vice President of Vietnam Professional Football Joint Stock Company - also announced his resignation due to the scandal of insulting the Deputy Head of the Referee Board, Duong Van Hien. Some comments said that the recent noisy events are all attacks that factions aim at each other before the VFF Congress.
