Ukraine must stop criticizing Germany for its participation in the Nord Stream 2 project, German President Frank-Walter Shteinmaier said at a press conference in Kiev.

"You don't have to accuse us. Even when we talk about Nord Stream 2, we talk about the future and security of Ukraine. You have seen that Germany is working to ensure gas transit through Ukraine. For this, negotiations are underway with the European Union, I hope they will yield results," said Shteinmaier.

The German President stressed that Ukraine's fear of losing its status as a gas transit country is unfounded.

The Nord Stream-2 project envisages the construction of two lines with a total capacity of 55 billion cubic meters of gas per year. The pipeline runs from the Russian coast through the Baltic Sea to Germany next to the existing Nord Stream.
